Complex Trauma
The crux of the intervention work within the social care and health field relates back to early life experiences as discussed by John Bowlby, Mary Ainsworth, Renee Spitz and James Robertson.
Crucial times for both the practitioner and client. Understanding the legacy of complex trauma is the crucible for knowing what strategies to employ in working with vulnerable people to build them up within the present. The historical impact cannot be assumed only explored. For example I have heard female clients become extremely defensive over a father’s sexual abuse of them, screaming that it was undertaken out of an act of love rather than a transgression of trust.
