Dr. Whittington is an expert in masculinities, violence and substance use as detailed in his book “Beaten into Violence”. He is also an experienced group worker trained at Edinburgh University and has worked for the past twenty-five years with groups and individuals.

The group work he provides offers an opportunity for men to explore their emotional worlds. The supportive atmosphere helps men to dissolve their fronts and express their masked feelings. Often the front appears to be coping through control and domination linked to suppressing anger/rage. Addiction is viewed a form of self medication, a coping strategy which masks depression, loneliness, relationship problems, childhood issues and institutional violence.
